A Work Permit allows foreign nationals to work in Canada legally. There are two types: employer-specific work permits, tied to a specific job, and open work permits, which allow you to work for any employer.

To apply, you must submit a job offer from a Canadian employer (for employer-specific permits). In some cases the employer needs a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to show no Canadian citizen or permanent resident is available for the job.

For spouses of work permit holders, an open work permit may be available under certain conditions.

Required Documents and Pointers:

• Job offer from a Canadian employer (for employer-specific work permits).
• Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), if required.
• Proof of qualifications and work experience.
• Valid passport.
• Proof of financial support.
• Police and medical clearances, if required.
